Battery Park

Great place to visit

Location: New York, United States, North America

Best time to visit: spring summer fall

What to do and what to see:

On the southernmost tip of bustling Manhattan, travelers will be pleased to discover the 25-acre waterfront oasis called Battery Park, overlooking the New York Harbor. The largest open green-space in downtown NYC, it’s one of the city’s oldest parks, and the famed Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are a short Staten Island Ferry ride away. Nicknamed the “emerald doorstep of the metropolis,” the park is filled with statues and memorials. The centuries-old Castle Clinton National Monument is the park’s major landmark, and several major NYC attractions are within walking distance including the NY Stock Exchange, the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Horticulturists will treasure the garden areas in the Battery, and many public music and cultural events are hosted here annually. Stop by and visit Battery Park, fondly referred to by locals as the front lawn of Manhattan.
