The Cathedral of Saint Patrick

Famous religious site with out

Location: New York, United States, North America

Best time to visit: year round

What to do and what to see:

A few blocks south of New York City’s Central Park lies the stunning Cathedral of St Patrick, the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in America. Formally opened in 1879, this marble architectural wonder is designed in the Neo-Gothic style, and can seat up to 2200 people in its vast interior sanctuary. Worshippers can attend scheduled Mass at various times daily, some with music and some without, and all individuals are welcome to light candles at one of many conveniently located candle stands inside the church. The Cathedral also offers quite a variety of concert series, with a full schedule of organ concerts, choir concerts and classical music concerts throughout the year. Groups of ten or more can schedule private tours, and the church posts a schedule of walk-in tours as well. The gifts shops at St Patrick’s Cathedral offer a wide variety of religious gifts and keepsakes including rosaries, statues and books, the proceeds of which go back into the community directly served by the church. Whether travelers wish to visit the church to pray, to learn about the church’s history and influence, or to simply appreciate the stunning architecture, St Patrick’s Cathedral is a site everyone is sure to remember.
