What to do and what to see:

Breathe in the fresh mountain air a mile above sea level in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, the famed Pikes Peak mountain range towers on the western horizon and draws visitors to come view astounding rock and geological formations. Adventurous climbers can test their mettle against steep canyons on the Barr Trail, and white-water rafting expeditions down the Arkansas River are sure to please thrill-seekers at all levels. A wide variety of horseback riding tours offer a family friendly approach to sightsee, as does the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Spelunking fans will enjoy a tour of Cave of the Winds in the Pikes Peak area, and the stunning Seven Falls waterfall area is just a ten minute drive from downtown Colorado Springs. For those who would rather venture into culture, a Carnegie Library is located in the national historic district of Old Colorado City, and history lovers can also stop by the Manitou Cliff Dwellings just west of the city to view reproductions of Anasazi-style Native American structures. Just a few of some other notable sites to visit are the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy. And of course, Colorado Springs is widely known for ski resorts, and more than a dozen major mountain ski areas are available for day trips out of the city. Averaging 300 days of sunshine yearly, any time is great to visit, with nods toward winter for ski trips, or summer and fall for viewing nature at its best. Be sure to drink plenty of water as your body acclimates to the higher elevation, and get ready for a wide array of adventure in Colorado Springs.
