What to do and what to see:

The Exploratorium is a world-class, hands-on science and art museum located in the Palace of Fine Arts, just off the bay in northern San Francisco, and this venue attracts hundreds of thoUSnds of visitors annually. With more than 100,000 square feet of floor space, this interactive and ever-changing attraction includes a theater, a webcast studio, a life science laboratory, 9 wired classrooms, a multi-media learning center, library, and various artisan shops in which many of the displays are created on-site. The center partners with teachers and artists alike, and is geared towards education, understanding and exploration. This unique partnership results in hundreds of hands-on displays and exhibits delving into physics, biology, energy, sights and sounds, and patrons are encouraged to take part in the interaction. Many visitors highly recommend the Tactile Dome, an exhibit experienced in total darkness in which your only guide is your sense of touch. Travelers will be happy to learn that the ample parking is free, as is admission to the facility on the first Wednesday of each month (for groups less than 10 in number). Regular tickets for admission are reasonably priced and are available online, and special after-dark displays and ticket options are available. For souvenirs and gifts, the shop located inside the museum offers plenty of fascinating options. Come ready to learn, explore and understand your world better at the Exploratorium.
