What to do and what to see:

Santa Barbara, California has been dubbed “The American Riviera,” with beautiful miles of coastline, the rugged Santa Ynez Mountains as a back-drop, and sunshine year-round. The beaches are one of the prime attractions here, and travelers can choose from sand volleyball, swimming, fishing, whale-watching, boating, kite-flying and other beach sports. Scuba-diving, kayaking and sport fishing offer adventurous visitors more extreme options for fun, and several outfits can be found for surfing, wave-riding, parasailing, gliding and even hot-air ballooning. The mountains are a great place to explore on bicycle, and the area’s decades of love for all things equestrian is evident in the horse ranches, riding facilities, and the American Wild Horse Sanctuary in nearby Lompoc. Santa Barbara is home to beautiful Spanish-style architecture, and notable sites to see include the Rafael Gonzalez House, Burton Mount, de la Guerra Plaza, and others. Visitors can stroll along State Street and view the waterfront area of Stearns Wharf, the oldest still-operating wharf on the American west coast. For culture lovers, classical music has a decided presence here, with many non-profit performing groups, a symphony, and the renowned Music Academy of the West in Montecito. Each year in August, residents and visitors take part in The Fiesta, a celebration of the city’s Spanish historical connections. Numerous gardens, theaters, art galleries and museums bridge the gap between history and nightlife, and hundreds of fine dining establishments are available from which to choose, with locally brewed wine and fresh local produce. Travelers from every nation are sure to savor the flavor of the city of Santa Barbara.
