What to do and what to see:

For a multi-cultural adventure like no other, plan to visit New York’s Chinatown and Little Italy. These two areas of Manhattan practically rub shoulders, with Little Italy being just a few blocks north of Chinatown. Bordered by Broadway on the West and Essex Street on the East, the pagodas and dim sum of Chinatown are basically divided from the cobblestone and pasta of Little Italy by Canal Street. One of the key historic archives of Chinese history in the U.S. is the Museum of Chinese in America, with a new location on Centre Street opening in the fall of 2009. Other sites to explore are Chatham Square, Confucius Plaza, and the remarkable foods of the Bangkok Center Grocery. Little Italy has its share of incredible wares as well, with authentic imported Italian foods, Sicilian ceramics, and the wide array of items at the Arthur Avenue Retail Market. The San Gennaro Festival transforms Little Italy each September, and the recently opened Italian-American Museum showcases the area’s heritage. Walking tours are offered of both areas, and the spring, summer and fall are the best times to experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of Chinatown and Little Italy.
